Fatbike Tour to Pyhä-Luosto National Park

Trail Grooming Schedule for Cross-country Skiing Trails

Maintenance for the early-season trails must be completed by 10:00 AM each morning.
Starting from Sunday of Week 7, all trails must be maintained and ready by 1:00 PM.
During dry weather, trails are groomed as necessary, based on wear or freeze-thaw conditions in spring, but no less frequently than every third day.

The maximum allowed snow depth on trails is 20 mm. Maintenance should begin immediately when this limit is exceeded, provided that at least four (4) hours have passed since the previous maintenance session.

Trail Maintenance During Snowfall

During continuous snowfall, illuminated trails are groomed twice daily:

First grooming must be completed by 10:00 AM.
The second grooming session may begin no earlier than four hours after the first session has concluded. The following illuminated trails are maintained twice daily in snowy conditions:

  • Torvisen Maja to Lampivaara (Luosto)
  • Välilatu (Luosto)
  • Luppo to Pyhän Asteli trail (Pyhä)
After snowfall or snow drift, maintenance starts immediately, following the scheduled grooming order, and continues until all trails in the maintained network are open.

For early-season trails, maintenance must be completed within ten (10) hours after snowfall ends. Starting from Week 7, maintenance for longer trails must be completed within fourteen (14) hours after snowfall ends.

Winter Biking Trail Maintenance

Winter biking trails are maintained starting in early December, as soon as weather permits, and continue until mid-April. These trails are groomed using a snowmobile with a tow-behind groomer. Regular maintenance is generally once per week, but twice weekly during the Christmas/New Year period and during school skiing holiday weeks (weeks 8-10). Maintenance in Pyhä is managed by Pyhähippu Oy and in Luosto by Lapland Safaris Luosto.

Snowmobile Route Maintenance

The snowmobile route network is maintained according to a planned schedule. Juujärvi Racing Oy handles the maintenance of long-distance routes, while local routes in Pyhä and Luosto are alternately maintained by Juujärvi Racing Oy and Pyhä-Luosto Vesi Oy on a rotating weekly schedule.
